Avoca
                                                         Victoria

                                               2011 By John Boom

Avoca located in Victoria is another former gold mining town that in its day no doubt
supported thousands of people during the gold rush period. Today its no longer in
its glory days and unfortunately didn’t develop along with time as many other similar
towns did after that period.

Its fallen into disrepair and the lack of growth and services has seen the decline of
the town area over time. We stayed in the caravan park overnight and found it a
very nice place. The Avoca River offers fishing opportunities if you like that and
there are a few historic buildings left to explore while you have a look around the
area.

If you like metal detecting I’m sure there’s still plenty of gold to be found by the
amateur prospector. You’ll need to get permission before you search on private
property though. The area has several wineries, which can also be explored.
